Can only ‘gentlemen’ become members?
Membership of the Society is open to everyone aged 18 and over. Simply fill in the application form and return it to the Membership Secretary. You can find more information on the ‘Membership‘ page
What are your opening times?
Members are able to access the museum on Monday mornings and Thursday evenings. Members of the public are able to access the building at other times by appointment only. Unfortunately we cannot have regular opening hours but we are more than happy to accommodate your needs. If you would like to visit as an individual or a group, please see our ‘Visits‘ page

What are the museum’s accessibility arrangements?
Due to the age of the building, accessibility is limited. Access to the first floor is via a staircase, unfortunately we do not have a lift. The staircase has one turn and handrails on either side. There are also some narrow and uneven walkways. If you have any special access requirements, please do get in touch and we will endeavour to accommodate. We have commissioned a report into future options for our accommodation. Improvement to disabled access is a priority requirement.
Can I borrow a book from the library?
Our library is not a lending library but you are welcome to use it for research or general interest purposes. To handle our old and ageing collection you will need to undergo a short induction. To make arrangements, please contact the Librarian.
How can I donate an item to the collection?
We do accept donations of new items however we are unable to accept everything that is offered. With limited space and storage, we cannot take everything. We have an accessions policy within museum accreditation. If you have an item that you think maybe of interest to the Society, please do get in touch and we will pass the information to the curators for consideration.
