On July 11th sixty Society members and guests accepted the invitation of the Duke of Buccleuch to visit his fine house at Boughton. We were treated to a full tour of the house with its magnificent paintings and beautifully furnished rooms.
We were given a tour of the estate in the afternoon followed by the opportunity to tour the extensive and picturesque gardens. Boughton’s cafe provided refreshments including lunch at frequent intervals during the day.
The Duke joined us for lunch and spent a great deal of time talking to Society members. He welcomed us very warmly and expressed his delight at becoming our patron with some very gracious and generous words of encouragement.
Many thanks also to Tom Grimes for organising this event. It will be a difficult act to follow next year!
